Our client is looking for a Nursery Manager who will be responsible for overseeing all operations at a large-scale nursery, including planning, coordinating, and implementing tasks necessary for the production of high-quality seedlings. The manager will lead a team of skilled professionals, and work with other departments to ensure the delivery of seedlings to customers on time and to the desired specifications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage all nursery activities, including seedling propagation, transplanting, fertilization, irrigation, pest management, and inventory management.
- Monitor the growth of seedlings, diagnose problems, and develop and implement strategies to ensure optimal plant health and growth.
- Ensure adherence to established quality control standards, including tracking and analyzing performance data to ensure high-quality seedlings.
- Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to ensure that the nursery meets customer demands and is able to fulfill orders in a timely manner.
- Develop and manage nursery budgets and maintain financial records.
- Manage a team of nursery personnel, including hiring, training, and supervising staff.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing plant health and safety, and maintain accurate records related to compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and implement improvements to nursery operations and processes to improve efficiency and productivity.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in horticulture, agronomy, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience managing a large-scale nursery, including experience with seedling propagation and care.
- Strong leadership skills and experience managing a team of employees.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of plant biology, soil science, and pest management principles.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations governing plant health and safety.
- Proficient in the use of common computer programs, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
